Natural handwriting is pure expression of personality

Handwriting is as individual as fingerprints and therefore an expression of an individual’s subconscious. It is the only kind of writing that is truly authentic. It is also the only mode of graphic expression that is governed by the subconscious and can reflect the inherent characteristics of entire cultural communities. All other modes of expression (such as gestures, facial expressions and voice) appear only briefly, as fleeting moments in time.

If you compare the speed with which words can be written with the speed of a constant stream of thoughts, handwriting can be called a kind of graphic "snapshot of the mind" in slow motion.

It doesn’t matter if handwriting is brought to paper with the aid of a pencil or a brush as long as it is always done with emotion. Emotions are the key! They stem from a limitless source, which mean that everyone can develop their own unique handwriting style.

All handwriting styles follow their own aesthetics and can indeed prevail over the most rigorous penmanship rules learned at school. However hard you try, your own personal handwriting style will never be what you learned to consider correct penmanship. And you shouldn’t try to achieve this either. Every conscious attempt of wanting to live up to the standards set by penmanship rules destroys the spontaneity and naturalness you need in order to find your own handwriting style! Only free and unrestrained writing will communicate vitality and be true. Aiming for perfection in both form and expression goes against the concept of personal handwriting. Instead, it must be inventive, intuitive and unique. That’s what makes handwriting authentic. That’s what makes it art. The images shown to the left are good examples of how handwriting sometimes changes all by itself.
